Arquitectonica at Design Miami/: Celebrating 20 Years of Design Innovation

Arquitectonica marks Design Miami’s 20th Anniversary with a dual presentation celebrating the intersection of nature, design, and innovation. Debuting Vadose, a new furniture and lighting collection by co-founder Laurinda Spear inspired by the ecological systems of the land–water threshold, the firm also unveils the Design Miami/ Talks Theater, a sculptural environment shaped by Miami’s architectural heritage and Spear’s enduring material explorations. Together, these experiences showcase Arquitectonica’s commitment to resilient design, craftsmanship, and the evolving dialogue between the built and natural worlds.

Past, Present, Future: A Celebration of Design Visionaries

To mark the 20th year of Design Miami, Arquitectonica created a space reflecting Glenn Adamson’s theme, Make.Believe, showcasing reflections from past, present, and future visionaries of design.

The Design Talks Theater celebrates design across history-past, present, and future. The space integrates Vitruvius's principles of good design from De Architectura (c. 30-15 BCE)¹-Firmitas (Durability), Utilitas (Utility), and Venustas (Beauty)-through light-filled lenses that cast bold, geometric shadows onto walls finished with earth-derived, mineral-based paint.

At the edge of land and sea, the Vadose Collection blends strength, fluidity, and organic geometry.

Each piece rises and falls like roots with the tide, varying in height, scale, and form to create a living, sculptural landscape of furniture for interior / exterior spaces.
